As Racks and Network Equipment Standard

As Racks and Network Equipment Standard - Hallo my friends,, This post is entitled As Racks and Network Equipment Standard, All of the content is aim for reader satisfaction. Hopefully all the posts will be easy to understand and likeable.

Hello guys.

In environments that follow the ANSI / TIA standards and adopt the good practices of structured cabling, it is common for infrastructure equipment is rack mounted suitable for this purpose. There are different types of racks that vary depending on the needs of the environment, like the closed racks or open tower type (floor) for rooms that must accommodate various equipment and mini-racks type cabinet that are normally fixed on the walls of departments to accommodate few access devices.

The standard width of the racks is 19 '' (nineteen inches), as equivalent to 48.260 cm. The height, however, is variable depending on the amount of equipment that must be accommodated. Despite the actual height of the rack is variable, there is a standard unit of measurement to describe the height of the infrastructure equipment that are set out in racks, like the patch panels, switches, routers, modems, servers, etc.

This unit of measure is called rack unit (RU) or simply U. All rack has two side columns with uniform holes (figure), and three holes equivalent to 1U (about 4.5 cm). The same standardization is followed by most network equipment manufacturers, so we refer to the height of the equipment in the shape of the letter U. For example, normally the access switches occupy a space equivalent to 1U, while some routers can occupy 2U , 3U, or more.

Below bring some approximate measures of racks:

Mini Rack Cabinet Type

  • 03U = 13,5 cm
  • 05U = 22,5 cm
  • 07U = 31,5 cm
  • 08U = 36,0 cm
  • 09U = 40,5 cm
  • 10U = 45,0 cm
  • 12U = 54,0 cm
  • 16U = 72,0 cm

Racks de Piso

  • 12U = 0,54 m
  • 16U = 0,72 m
  • 20U = 0,90 m
  • 24U = 1,08 m
  • 28U = 1,26 m
  • 32U = 1,44 m
  • 36U = 1,62 m
  • 40U = 1,80 m
  • 44U = 1,98 m
  • 48U = 2,16 m

Note that the height and even the actual width of the rack will vary from model to model, since the standardized unit with respect to the internal spacing between the columns of holes. When the products do not have width equivalent to 19 '', usually they are provided with appropriate clamps to meet the standard.

Hug.
